Title: Natural Hospital Birth: The Best of Both Worlds
Author: Cynthia Gabriel
Category: Non-fiction, Pregnancy and Childbirth
Rating: 5/5!
Natural Hospital Birth is an excellent guide for mom's who want to have a natural birth but also want to give birth in the hospital. Cynthia Gabriel shows that while this goal may be hard to achieve, with the right support, it is very possible.
In Natural Hospital Birth, Cynthia Gabriel, a certified doula, starts by giving tips on how to prepare for your birth. She educates on what decisions you will encounter in the hospital and gives tips on how to decide who your birth team will be. She gives personal stories from other moms who gave birth naturally in the hospital and shows examples of their birth plans. She also gives a detailed description of what labor is like and how to prepare for each stage to achieve the most natural birth possible in the hospital.
I borrowed this book from my doctor's office at the beginning of pregnancy. I really appreciated how Cynthia Gabriel had a positive view of natural hospital birth. She was also realistic and helped me realize that my birth may not go completely how plan, and that is all right. Her description of labor, while very detailed and again, realistic, gave me peace of mind because I now feel that I know better what to expect. I really appreciated that she gave examples of natural birth plans because I had no idea where to start. I actually ended up using one of her examples as a template to get started. (It is still a work in progress.) I would definitely recommend Natural Hospital Birth to any mom wanting to have a natural birth in the hospital, but I also believe that parts of this book would be an excellent resource for any mom giving birth.
