As promised, I will be listing my top choices for prenatal vitamins. I looked at multiple different brands and chose my new prenatal based on the number and amount of vitamins and minerals present, type of inactive ingredients in the tablets, additional benefits, and cost of the individual doses. If you have not already, please read my previous post Prenatal Vitamins: Part 1 to know what should be in your prenatal vitamins and/or diet.

ACTIF

My number one choice for my new prenatal was ACTIF Organic Prenatal. This vitamin has all the vitamins and minerals I discussed in Part 1, except Vitamin K, and has folate instead of synthetic folic acid. It is without preservatives, fillers, and sugar and is made of mostly plant-based ingredients. In addition, it has ingredients for digestive support including a probiotic. Compared to the other prenatal vitamins I looked at, it was definitely more median when it came to cost.

Honest

Another good option for a prenatal is from The Honest Company. It has all the vitamins and minerals discussed in Part 1, except Omega 3; however, it has lower daily value percentages than some of the other vitamins I looked at. This one also has digestive support in the form of digestive enzymes. It is, however, more expensive per capsule than ACTIF.

Garden of Life Organics

Garden of Life Organics also offers a good option for prenatal vitamins. It has higher levels of daily value percentages of the specific nutrients than some of the others but has a lower daily value of iron, which is a very important nutrient. It would be important to ensure you are getting adequate iron intake in your diet especially the farther you go in your pregnancy. This option is without choline, magnesium, and omega 3 so you would need additional supplementation of these nutrients. Overall, it is fairly reasonably priced.

Mama Natural

When I started looking into prenatal vitamins, I expected this one to be higher on the list; however, I could not justify the cost since it is the most expensive per capsule of all the vitamins I looked at. Also, it was without magnesium, calcium, choline, and omega 3 so it would require more supplementation. However, it does offer digestive support and antioxidants in its formula.

Pink Stork

This option is also on the more expensive side and has a serving size of 2 capsules daily. However, it does offer most of the nutrients that I previously discussed, except vitamin K. Besides cost, it is lower on the list because it is “berry scented” which I do not believe contributes to health benefits.

Nature Made

Last on my list was Nature Made prenatal vitamins. While this one is the most cost-effective and contains a large number of the important nutrients I previously discussed, this one also offers an “orange scent” which does not contribute to health benefits and is, therefore, unnecessary. It did not contain choline and has synthetic folic acid in addition to folate. This one is a good option, however, if you are trying to save money.

I hope this was at least somewhat helpful. If you have found a different prenatal in the past that you love, let me know what it was in the comments, and, as always, if you have questions feel free to reach out!
